Benzoyl peroxide & ACNE

The ingredient was first used as a healing agent in 1929 for wounds and burns. In the 1960’s it started to be utilized as an acne treatment.
How Does It Treat Acne?
Benzoyl Peroxide treats acne by killing and preventing the growth of C. Acnes Bacteria. BPO is lipophilic, which means it can penetrate deep into the follicle to remove dead skin build up. When it gets into the pore, it oxygenates the follicle, which kills the anaerobic C. Acnes Bacteria.
Precautions of BPO?
If you know Benzoyl Peroxide, you know that it can dry the skin out and it will bleaching your clothing, towels, pillowcases, etc. Because BPO is drying, it is important to note that this is very common. It does not mean you are having an allergic reaction. You should always avoid the eyes and neck, as these areas will get irritated.
